Landscape Photography, Australian Landmarks – Nudgee, Nudgee Beach Sunrise

Landscape Photography, Australian Landmarks – Nudgee QLD, Nudgee Beach Sunrise

Here’s another image from my recent trip to Australia. I’d heard about the mangroves down on Nudgee beach (Australian landmarks just outside of Brisbane) and thought I’d head down for an sunrise shot. It was dark when i turned up and had to walk quite a way to find this lone tree.

This was taken about 10 minutes before sunrise, I had to work really quick as the light was changing all the while. The changing pre-sunrise colours were incredible, and had to really concentrate and not just stand there in wonder! I can’t remember the last time i saw a sunrise quite like this, i’ll certainly not forget this one!

I took a series of exposures as the sun rose and i’ll post them up for you to compare how the light was changing throughout – what a light show hey!  I did consider excluding the tree from the composition as i wanted the main focus to be the clouds, I’m glad i didn’t now as without it the colours might have been a little overbearing.

Oh and one thing, if ever you go down to Nudgee beach you’ll find that it’s pretty much a salt water mangrove – if you see any ‘dog-fish’ swimming around your feet you might want to get out and put your wellies on…I found out when i got home to my Aunt and Uncles place that there are no ‘dog-fish’ along the coast here – the ‘dog-fish’ are actually baby bull sharks! Wish i’d have known this before wading out knee deep in flip-flops for 30 mins! Definitely an Australian landmark to remember!

A 0.9 reverse grad did another great job of holding back the highlights but I still had to work pretty quick to capture the light show – for the final image I had to de-saturate a little because the real intensity looked almost unreal! Again this is pretty much out of the can, single shot, no messing about.

See you soon!

Something to goggle about indeed. You get an exceptional talent. But where are the other shots. Just one is just too much tempting. upload the others. I am sure they will be a feast to the eyes.

Barney great image of my local beach!
I live one suburb over (Banyo) and I was Googling to look for some ideas about sunrise
tomorrow and your image popped up. Its going to be a high tide and there is a chance of some cloud so I’m trying my luck and shooting with a variable ND filter.
But like you said you have to work quick 🙂
